G’s Story of Hope
Today we lit a candle for the Advent week of hope and shared the story of G, a woman in our community who’s learned to bring hope to others with practical contributions, no matter how small.
As someone who describes herself as naturally reserved, G admits she never thought she’d be comfortable striking up conversations with strangers. Yet, through intentional growth in her faith and self-reflection, she’s discovered the confidence to connect with people in meaningful ways over the years. This transformation didn’t just help her personally—it sparked a passion for making a difference. G is now deeply involved with Fight 4 Freedom, an organization supporting individuals affected by sex trafficking. Whether it’s offering simple gifts like hand cream or listening without judgment, G ensures every interaction communicates care and respect. One story she treasures from when she began working in this area, was hearing from someone who turned their life around after a small act of kindness (a sandwich and water gifted to her one night). Years later the individual shared that that simple act, that expected nothing in return, made them feel valued and worth something. The survivor made a decision in their heart that night and she came back to tell G and her team how grateful she was — proof that even simple gestures can create profound change.
G’s passionate about helping people by showing up for them and being consistently present, especially through small gestures. After taking the financial course at church – Money Matters, with a goal of responsibly handling her finances, she realized how beneficial the worksheets from the course would be to a survivor. So she did the simple act of reaching out and asking. Now she and her team have used the financial worksheets in their one to one moments with survivors, by using these tools to support them in gaining practical skills for their futures. G believes change can happen when you take small steps and make small loving gestures. Even if the results aren’t immediate. Her advice? Stay open to opportunities to learn, connect, and make a difference. “You never know the ripple effect that one action may have on your circle of influence,” she says. She also reminds us that God isn’t limited, and to seize the opportunity to love your community well in small practical ways. Meaningful change often starts with a willingness to truly care for those around you and to be present. Through her story, G reminds us that faith is an active journey, and even the smallest acts of obedience can have a lasting impact.
