Nalini’s Story
“If I hadn’t been able to look to God as a source of strength, I wouldn’t have been able to endure what was to come” (Nalini Sen, 2024). One of Nalini’s earliest moments of serving, was in vacuuming the balcony stairs of our church, prior to the official opening of its current location alongside her mom, a task she eagerly undertook as a child. Unknowingly, it added to her firm foundation in Christ and love for her community. Years later, she passionately volunteers in kids ministry, the care team, and more. She says serving has been one of the most beautiful experiences of her life.
Growing up in a Christian household as an only child, Nalini’s parents were her world. Her dad’s devout prayers resonated through her home, instilling in her the importance of prayer from a young age. Her mom, a woman dedicated to service, walked alongside her as she found her path to faith. However, when she left for undergrad, the distance from her family left Nalini feeling alone and questioning her purpose. In those moments of doubt, she turned to scripture, finding solace in Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding…submit to Him…He will make your paths straight.” It provided comfort and guidance amid uncertainty.
One day, after receiving the devastating news of her dad’s critical condition, Nalini was brought to her knees; at that moment, all she had was her faith. Tragically, she lost her dad, leaving her to navigate the overwhelming task of planning his funeral and running the household. She surrendered to God’s will. Despite being accepted into medical school, Nalini stayed home to support her mother, trusting God’s faithfulness to guide her path. She soon realized a calling to pursue further education and make a difference wherever she was. Through discernment and unwavering faith, doors began to open, leading Nalini to the field of Alzheimer’s research, fulfilling a lifelong aspiration. It’s a journey marked by resilience, faith, and the firm belief that God’s plan was more significant than her own.
