Salvation is more than Justification.  Yes, God accepts us “as is” but He loves us too much to leave us that way.  But how do we get from where we are….. to becoming the person we have the potential to become? Enter Sanctification.  As soon as we begin following Jesus we are Justified – Definition: Just as if we’d never sinned.  But we do still sin, we fall short of our character potential, and we certainly fall short of the perfection of Jesus.  Sanctification is His life long work in our lives
Peter was the poster child of being accepted in an “as is” condition.  In his actions, he repeatedly stumbled and his words were so uncontrolled they seem to come out his mouth without going through his brain.  But after decades of following Jesus He was able to claim:  If you do these things you will never stumble….  Here’s what he wrote: “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.”
